About the Event

Participants will learn about the types of legal cases OCRA can assist regional center consumers with, how we can assist, and how we decide what kind of assistance we provide. Participants will also come away with a basic understanding of regional center eligibility criteria and services, both for Early Start for children under 3 years old, and the Lanterman Act for individuals 3 and older.

Speaker -

Alexander Scarlis – CRA

Alex is a Clients’ Rights Advocate who works with Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center consumers and their families to advocate for the civil rights of people with developmental disabilities.  Alex believes OCRA’s work is crucial to ensuring people with developmental disabilities live as independently as possible.  Prior to working for OCRA, Alex represented people with disabilities in negotiations and appeals against state vocational rehabilitation agencies as an advocate in the Massachusetts Office on Disability.

Alex double-majored in Journalism and Political Science at Northwestern University and holds a Master of Public Policy from Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management.
