Hello everyone! I hope you guys enjoyed your first month of the year. We're excited to introduce our family spotlight of this month, Iswarya and Raghu's family.
Family Spotlight:
In 2017, Yatin's family discovered WeEMBRACE through a friend. At the time, they were living in Rancho Cordova, navigating the challenges of raising a young child with special needs. Their son, Yatin, was just four years old, and they were looking for a community that could offer him both social exposure and a sense of belonging. When they learned about the programs WeEMBRACE offered, they were immediately impressed. Finally, they had found a place that understood their journey and could help Yatin thrive.

Over the years, Yatin has participated in nearly every program WeEMBRACE offers: dance, soccer, basketball, arts and crafts, cooking, drama, drumming, the 5K run, and annual day celebrations. But one program, in particular, made a lasting impact: buddymatch. Social interaction has always been a challenge for Yatin, but through the buddy program, he found mentors in neurotypical peers. By observing and imitating them, he learned essential social skills that were once difficult for him. His parents call it a game-changer.
Yatin’s parents, Raghu and Iswarya are not just participants in the WeEMBRACE community—they give back, too. They volunteer for events like the 5K run and the basketball program, ensuring that other families feel just as supported as they have. They know firsthand how crucial it is to have a network of people who understand, who listen, and care.
As Yatin grows, his parents’ focus has also shifted. They think about his future and the skills he’ll need to sustain an independent life. For them, it’s not just about finding opportunities, it’s about creating them. They want Yatin to learn real-world skills, whether it’s cooking or another hands-on activity, that will help him build confidence and self-sufficiency.
Beyond structured programs, Yatin has his own passions. He loves music, playing basketball, jumping on trampolines, and being in the water. His family encourages these interests, seeking out resources and community programs that support his growth. They’ve learned that advocating for Yatin means being proactive, whether it’s through his IEP at school, finding one-on-one swimming lessons, or connecting with parents who have already walked this path.
For families just beginning their journey, Yatin’s parents offer one piece of advice: acceptance is key. The sooner you acknowledge and embrace your child’s unique needs, the sooner you can start helping them flourish. It’s not always an easy road, but with the right support, like the one they found in WeEMBRACE, it becomes a journey filled with growth and endless possibilities.
